POLISHED STONE

Polished natural stone, is the most common finish however don’t let that dissuade you. The brilliance and shine of this finish definitely takes any slab and puts it center stage. Picture a surface so smooth it reflects like a still pond under the moonlight. That's the allure of the polished finish – a gleaming masterpiece that adds a touch of sophistication to any space.

Why we love it:

  • Mirror-Like Shine: Polished stones boast a high-gloss finish, creating a reflective surface that amplifies natural and artificial light.

  • Enhanced Color Saturation: The polishing process intensifies the natural colors of the stone, making each hue more vibrant and captivating.

  • Smooth Texture: Run your fingers across a polished stone, and you'll feel an irresistibly silky touch, adding a luxurious feel to your surfaces.

When to Choose Polished Stone:

1. Formal Elegance: Polished finishes are a go-to for spaces that demand a dash of formal opulence. Think grand entranceways, lavish dining rooms, or upscale kitchen countertops where the reflective surface elevates the entire aesthetic.

2. Small Spaces with Big Ambitions: Polished stones are a secret weapon for smaller rooms. The reflective quality opens up the space, creating an illusion of expansiveness, making it perfect for bathrooms or cozy city apartments.

3. Contemporary Chic: If your style leans towards modern or contemporary, polished finishes effortlessly complement the clean lines and sleek design elements characteristic of these aesthetics.

Decor Styles that Embrace Polished Stones:

  • Modern Marvels: Polished natural stone aligns seamlessly with the sleek and clean lines of modern interiors, creating a symphony of sophistication.

  • Classic Glam: For those embracing timeless glamor, polished surfaces add a touch of Hollywood Regency, making spaces feel like they belong in the pages of a design magazine.

  • Luxurious Living: From high-end penthouses to lavish hotel lobbies, polished finishes are the epitome of luxury, exuding an air of refinement and grandeur.

HONED FINISH

Step into the serene realm of honed natural stone, where understated elegance takes center stage. If polished finishes are the dazzling star of the show, honed surfaces are the quiet maestros, conducting a symphony of subtle sophistication in your living spaces.

Attributes that Whisper Elegance:

  • Soft Matte Finish: Honed stones exhibit a matte, non-reflective surface, creating a velvety, understated beauty.

  • Smooth to the Touch: Feel the gentle caress of honed stone beneath your fingertips – a tactile delight that exudes warmth and comfort.

  • Natural Character Shines: Unlike polished surfaces, honed finishes allow the natural colors and veining of the stone to take center stage without the distraction of a glossy sheen.

When to Choose Honed Stone:

1. Cozy Comfort Zones: Honed finishes are like a warm hug for your home. Opt for honed surfaces in spaces meant for relaxation – think cozy living rooms, bedrooms, or intimate reading nooks.

2. High-Traffic Areas: With its matte texture, honed stone is less prone to showing scratches or wear, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like hallways or family-friendly kitchens.

3. Rustic Retreats: If you're drawn to the charm of rustic or farmhouse aesthetics, honed finishes seamlessly integrate into these styles, adding a touch of unpretentious grace.

Decor Styles that Embrace Honed Stones:

  • Modern Rustic: Honed natural stone effortlessly complements the raw, earthy elements of modern rustic interiors, creating a harmonious blend of contemporary and country charm.

  • Minimalist Haven: For lovers of minimalist design, honed surfaces provide a calming backdrop, allowing other design elements to shine without overwhelming the space.

  • Transitional Tranquility: Honed finishes bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary styles, making them perfect for transitional spaces seeking timeless appeal.

Leathered Luxury

Dark textured stone surface with fine lines and grooves, creating a natural and leathered appearance.

Why we love it:

Prepare to embark on a journey into the untamed beauty of leathered natural stone – where raw elegance meets tactile adventure. If polished surfaces are the city lights and honed finishes are the quiet countryside, leathered stone is the winding path through a rugged mountain terrain.

Attributes that Speak Volumes:

  • Distinctive Texture: The leathering process enhances the stone's natural texture, creating a surface that invites touch and showcases the material's authentic character.

  • Subtle Sheen: Unlike the high gloss of polished stones, leathered finishes offer a muted sheen, striking a balance between sophistication and rugged charm.

  • Hide Imperfections: The textured surface of leathered stone is excellent at camouflaging minor imperfections, making it a forgiving choice for high-traffic areas.

When to Choose Leathered Stone:

1. Casual Elegance: Leathered finishes strike a balance between refinement and informality. Use them in spaces where you want to create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere – think family rooms, kitchens, or cozy outdoor entertainment areas.

2. High-Use Surfaces: Due to its ability to hide wear and tear, leathered stone is an excellent choice for surfaces that endure heavy daily use, such as kitchen countertops or bathroom vanities.

3. Outdoor Oasis: Extend your design aesthetic into outdoor spaces. Leathered finishes complement natural surroundings, making them an ideal choice for outdoor kitchens, patios, or poolside areas.

Decor Styles that Embrace Leathered Stones:

  • Transitional Retreat: Leathered finishes seamlessly blend into transitional interiors, adding a touch of character without overwhelming the design aesthetic.

  • Rustic Revival: For spaces inspired by the great outdoors or rustic farmhouse aesthetics, leathered stones add an authentic touch, bringing the rugged beauty of nature indoors.

  • Coastal Comfort: The textured allure of leathered stone finds its place in coastal-inspired interiors, mirroring the weathered charm of seaside landscapes.

Whether you're drawn to the velvety touch of honed surfaces, the radiant brilliance of polished finishes, or the textured richness of leathered stone, each option has its own allure. Consider the demands of your space, the level of foot traffic, and the desired atmosphere to guide your decision. A harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality will undoubtedly result in a space that transcends trends and stands as a testament to your unique style.

1 | SAVE TIME

Time without a doubt is the ultimate luxury but one that is hard to come by.

TIME IS MONEY and design projects take time!! And not just in the length from start to finish; but the time that you will spend each day liaising between contractors, vendors, permitting, sourcing, etc!, having someone to just manage the day-to-day is worth its weight in gold. Our job is to keep a project on time and making sure that things are moving along.

And so if time is money then-

2 | SAVE MONEY

Have you ever fell in love with piece of furniture in store but when you got it home it was too big? Ever tried to pick out white or beige paint for your home and had a whole room painted only to realize your kitchen is now the softest color baby pink? How come when you pair chartreuse and navy together it doesn't look like that IG post that you liked? Hiring an interior designer will save you from purchasing furniture that you don't need, over paying contractors to repeat work, but most of all have an editorial worthy space for you to enjoy. Bringing a designer on to your project can help you avoid costly mistakes and help you make design decisions that will increase the value of your home..

Budget conscious? a designer will know the best places to get the best value while helping you stay within your budget. OC Design & Organization offers in-depth budget monitoring on design projects.

creating a space that reflects both your personality and style lends itself to the standard that we adhere to.

3 | UNDER PRESSURE

On the topic of design projects, remodels & renovations; managing a projects can feel like a pressure cooker.

Leisurely picking out finishes can be fun and exciting (to some) but doing so while maintaining aesthetic and adhering to the project timeline can be stressful. If a piece of your project is delayed because an item on the punch-list goes unnoticed or maybe you don't have a fixture selected in time for the electrician to install. you've now caused a delay as well as an extra trip for your electrician which means your bottom line might be seeing red.

Gone are the days of 6 to 8 weeks delivery times. We have been seeing 6 and 9 month and in some cases upwards of a year to receive your furnishings and appliances. Non-construction based projects oftentimes take a tedious amount of management over a very prolonged period of time.

4 | SPACE PLANNING

Having already touched on this a little in the beginning; designers are able to determine the best furniture layout for a space is critical in how the room functions and how it reads aesthetically. In meeting with a client, we discuss the pieces that they want to repurpose or eliminate, and what needs to be added. This is where we get to dive into your curated pinboard or inspo screenshots- and then figure out how to make it YOURS!

Planning the space is HUGE.

5 | THE WOW FACTOR

It is my job to think outside of the box when it comes to home decor. Not only will you get a good design sense, but you’ll also get an attention to detail from proper lighting and furniture placement to fabric choices and color palette and fixture options. A designer can create custom-designed pieces to make sure everything fits perfectly and is truly special to your home.

Designers can also get you furniture, fabric, and materials that are trade-only and not accessible to everyone else. People notice a well-designed home. Try to do it by yourself, and you’re stuck juggling the many elements that go into designing that a designer is specifically trained to do so and has the space planning know-how and essential design tools. And when they’re done, not only will your home look beautiful and cohesive, but it’ll be well thought out and highly functional.
